Barricade®
gel
is a state-of-the-art hydrating polymer gel which creates a thermal barrier that
clings to vertical surfaces making it ideally suited for exposure protection. By
encapsulating the water into a gel product evaporation is significantly reduced.
In addition the gelled product will stick to vertical surfaces much better than
foams or plain water alone.
Barricade® gel can be applied to all exterior structural surfaces including metal,
glass, stucco and wood. It may also be applied with success
to compressed gas cylinders, motor vehicles, fuel tanks. When applied to vegetation,
Barricade®
gel can increase the defensible zone exposed to wildfire and
will not damage plant
life with the exception of possible leaf drop.
When properly applied,
Barricade®
Forms an effective water barrier on roofs, walls,
windows, propane tanks, trees and other fuels.
Remains hydrated and effective for over 6 hours*
and will not be blown off by winds.
Can be applied easily using one of our High Pressure Fire
Pumps and a Fire Hose Gel Eductor Kit.
Does NOT require complicated batch or premixing.
Is safe
and does not harm the environment. Contains no NPE's or petroleum
distillates!
Is
easy to clean up using plain water.
* When properly applied according to manufacturer's instructions.
IMPORTANT
NOTE ON GEL APPLICATION & WATER PRESSURE:
Gel eductors are designed to
combine the gel concentrate with water and deliver it to the nozzle at a precise
mixture rate. This
mixture rate is calculated
at a specified
nozzle flow rate
(GPM) and at an eductor inlet pressure of 100 PSI. Failure to
provide 100 psi at the specified nozzle flow rate will alter the mixture
rate of fire gels.
Although
gel eductors will operate with as little as 30 PSI,
below 100 psi the gel will under hydrate, resulting
in a drier gel with reduced thermal effectiveness and a
faster dry-out time. On the other hand, pressures above 100 psi can
result in over hydration which will reduce the products ability to cling
to vertical surfaces, however this can usually be corrected by
throttling back the engine to reduce
the pump pressure to obtain the wettest gel mixture possible that will
stick to a vertical surface.
It is the
users responsibility to ensure that the water delivery system being used is capable of providing the proper
pressure at the specified eductor flow rate to allow the gel product to be
applied properly for maximum effectiveness.
Remember, gel concentrate alone is NOT a fire retardant.
It is the
water held in suspension in the gel that creates the thermal
barrier.

NOTES:
* Specified coverage is based upon indicated eductor
pressure at rated nozzle flow. Lower water pressure will result
in reduced coverage and faster dry-out times.
** Most garden hoses are
5/8" diameter and suffer from significant pressure loss which can
severely impact the effectiveness of this eductor kit. We
highly recommend using our 3/4" Econoforest® forestry hose for optimum performance.
